What is Myotherapy?

Myotherapy is the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of physical pain and muscle injuries.

In today's society we live our lives doing things our bodies aren't actually designed for. In most cases, this is unavoidable. For example: Office Workers sitting at a desk all day, or Nurses and Teachers being on their feet for hours on end, or Tradie's who spend their days bending and twisting and lifting in awkward directions, the list goes on.

Because of this, our muscles and body systems are constantly under pressure. We end up tight, sore and eventually injured.  Myotherapy goes beyond simply treating the painful area.

Myotherapists investigate the root cause- why the pain or tightness developed in the first place- and treat the entire kinetic chain. Muscles function in teams, and often it's the dysfunction of one "team member" that leads to the issue. Correcting this imbalance is key to long term recovery and injury prevention.

Our aim is to get you moving better and living stronger.

What to expect:

Your myotherapy session will begin with an assessment. We will have a chat about how you are feeling in your body and what it is in your day to day that could be contributing or causing your pain, tension or injury.

Then I will ask you do some specific movements so we can see what is restricted or not moving how it should. This will give me an indication of what I need to work on during the manual therapy portion of the treatment.

Next the good part.  Body work and manual therapy is guided by how your muscles and connective tissue feel, how it responds to hands on release work, and what other modalities are required for best results, such as Cupping or Dry needling for example. (More information about these modalities are on the following page.)

We will then follow up with some of the movements we did at the start of the session to check your range has improved and your pain has been relieved.

Quite often a corrective exercise or self release technique is prescribed. This will help the unhelpful pattern to permanently change and you will continue to improve in how your body feels moving forward.
